Information About MOSAICS by Lennie Kaumzha
The images that you see are acrylic paintings on canvas, roughly 24 inches by 30 inches, done over a period from 1978 to the present. I studied art from 1972 to 1977 at San Jose State University, predominately in painting. After experimenting with both realist and abstract expressionism, I completed what I consider my first non-student set of paintings in 1981 using an abstract, geometrical style using only primary colors and white and mixtures of them.
I consider these to be somewhat 'color-as-music' theme, with modulations of color like musical notes, within a geometric framework. The next set completed in 1992 was what I now consider my 'mosaic' style, a kind of stain glass effect, of animals, landscapes, and people with a somewhat metaphysical angle.
In the mid-80s I became very interested in Native American philosophy and poetry, and these paintings were somewhat image counter-parts. From then to the present I have experimented with an abstract, pixel- type style, and various adaptations of the mosaic style with people, landscapes, and animals.
Currently, I am working on what I call a key-hole look, a kind of looking thru a lens which resembles a bit a kaleidoscope view. My styles and subject matter usually evolves as one is in the process; so who knows which thread I will pick up next. Sometimes I think I will go back into a particular painting and change it --- so that eventually I might have two or three or more versions of the same general painting. Where I shall go is open ended.
Most of these paintings can be acquired as framed color prints or cards.
